I feel like the dam broke with this one. The ease with which my “secular friends” could claim “Christian Metal to be an inferior product to the genuine article” was demolished within the first 75 seconds of hearing this record. It is timeless, & much like Bruce of Living Sacrifice himself, hasn’t aged a day, if it’s been 23 years. THIS ALBUM IS FEROCIOUS. Working with Living Sacrifice re-creating this thing, we really wanted to give it some new life, visually. We, in a rare gift, had access to more of the original art files & fonts than normal (it is always a total gamble), & really got to see what the original intent of the layout was, vs the final, muted-color-tone printed CD/vinyl we grew to be familiar with. Again, here we are choosing to make the iconography of such a strong visual image the focal point, & eliminating the fonts from the cover (it also helps preserve/keep the value of the original pressing). Bruce, Bruno & I had long zoom discussions about loving the vibrant “swamp green” tones of the original images, which were sort of lost in time, but we really wanted to restore with this reissue. The mastering for vinyl was done off the original mixes at Capitol Studios, & it is quite impressive to compare the dynamic range between this reissue & the first pressing. No project comes without its challenges, but this record, in particular, gives me pause to consider just how far we have come, & how much more we are committed to accomplishing in our quest to preserve this culture, scene, & legacy of unparalleled-musicianship.
