I met Johnathon Ford in 1997 in the back of the Tooth and Nail Records mail order room in Pioneer Square, Seattle Washington, where he single-handedly changed my life. I have told that story before. What I have not told is that Unwed Sailor’s album The Faithful Anchor has been with me through every important milestone in my adult life. I listen to it at least 10 times every single year, without fail, & own a copy of it on every physical media format it has ever been made on (yes, BTVhatchy even gave me the 1/3 Test Pressing he had many, many moons ago). Guess what? As luck or fate would have it.. We finally got the chance to give it the artistic treatment I always felt it deserved. I regard this 95% instrumental, textbook #MathRock album as being “in the pantheon of genre-defining, instrumental emo/postrock/whatever-I-don’t-care albums” ever. Now, it finally “looks” like one, from a packaging standpoint... as it now leans heavily into the familiar, nostalgic art design of “Classic Emo” albums like Christie Front Drive, Elliott, Jimmy Eat World & early The Jazz June for visual inspiration... I’ve always wanted to see that blurry, European-looking photograph as a full cover image (the original Lovesick Recordings, European-only vinyl release was housed in a gatefold package, showing the complete photograph, but “with a bit of atmosphere-ruining text” added). It is now time, as US’s #1 fan ever (a claim which would be hard for anyone to refute), to have the sailor steer the ship in a seafarer's “hall of fame” direction. Spartan Records WILL sell out of this 20th anniversary edition of this classic record, & YOU will be lucky, because you were wise enough to purchase it in time, right?! It is the grandfather of ALL that is good, relaxing, mood-setting, “long December night drives to #TheStanleyHotel,” mathy music.
