We were young. So were The Juliana Theory. You can hear it on this record. There is a look into the future of our scene, long before it happened to us. There is a perfectly cavalier naïveté. There is a bombastic confidence. For the longest, shortest time, I really resented The Juliana Theory… They were (& I would argue, continue to be to this day).. the tide changing. My hallowed “Youth Group weeknights,” filled with endless choruses of ONLY #SkatePunk & #Ska music were becoming… old news. I felt confused. Why do I like this “I wanna be the shoulder that you cry on” high-sensitivity, mushy guitar stuff? Why do my interests change every ten minutes when I am a teenager? Why did that girl just look at me funny? What new musical genre surprises will this turn-of-the-millennium bring about? I didn’t know that I wanted to know.. I wanted to cling to my Millencolin & Me First and the Gimme Gimmes’ FOREVER… … di…didn’t I? If only someone had told me when I was growing up that new “fads” would replace old “fads”, & eventually, near-everything you loved during your youth stops feeling like a fleeting phase… they become “the classics,” they become “you,” they become the moments that felt infinite. Moments that you knew even at the time, weren’t meant to last forever. Understanding this… is all a dream. We’re lucky to be here, enjoying this album, 25 years later with friends, for the brilliant art it was, & as a witness to the persons we all became.
