Spending long nights & days chatting with John Nissen about “What the iconography of the Pokinatcha Punk meant to fans,” we really beat ourselves up over the idea of “changing the perspective” of the “official” MxPx face for the first time in 25 years (from a side view to “something new”). There were LOTS of drafts, revisions, redactions, and considerations made when deciding to make this guy “looking straight on.” For the Test Pressing, John & Jason thought it would be fun to make a “working draft” visual representation of all of the dialogue concerning this artwork. Once Mike Herrera and the guys from MxPx had found the “new, classic face” to use, it was very quickly determined to make multiple “collectible cover variants” for fans, including different color backgrounds, vinyl colors, and labels for the Kickstarter Campaign. Every variant from the Kickstarter sold out, and we put out a second “yellow” pressing, which is still for sale at MxPx shows & on their Merch Arsenal site. The “Collector’s Edition” hand-numbered cover was all #screenprinted & assembled at Blackout Screenprinting Denver (who print #MagnifiedPlaid’s concert posters), & each one came with temporary tattoos. We’ll discuss the Flexi Disc in another post.
