Perhaps this is just my fandom coming out, but this was THE Ska Punk record to come out in the 1990s. It just upends all preconceived ideas of ska, joy, sarcasm, humor, stereotyping, stupidity, melody… all of it. It was a record I hid from my parents when I bought it, only to realize that they loved it as much as I did, and “they weren’t as bothered by the swearing as I had ever feared when it was done in fun.” So, when Pop Motion Pictures & we were making Ska Movie (Pick It Up: Ska In The 90s) together, I remember thinking to myself, “I wonder what will ever come of all this B-roll footage we are shooting, that will never make the movie?” Fast forward a few years, & Ross at Enjoy The Ride Records hits me up about this reissue, “You got any cool ideas?” “Oh, I do.. but it would probably be impossible to pull off… you see there’s this footage & these unheard interviews I know about…” That started the journey of compiling 8 hours worth of interview footage, transcribing all of it, verbatim, using AI software, which resulted in a raw, 80,000+ Word document, hacking that down by about 90%, & finally arranging the story I thought the fans would want to hear told, by the folks who lived it (think those old Alternative Press “Oral History of” articles in the 2000s, but, you know… 200x longer). I scanned old posters from my bedroom as a teenager which I have kept since the mid-90s, to help restore the artwork to full size, & did countless hours of research to tell a whole & complete story. This is the definitive, storytelling, super deluxe edition that I wanted to own as a fan - A way to thank my teenaged idol guys like John Feldmann & Aaron Barrett, who were characteristically flipping us the bird at their show with My Superhero & Supernova in 1997.
