We Three’s “She Left For America” on “Puget Sound turquoise-blue” vinyl. Available for preorder now. Around a year ago, some friends from the Pacific Northwest called & asked for some feedback on some music they were tracking. These weren’t just any friends, it was three of the most talented siblings on the planet (as was discovered on Americas Got Talent years ago). Their new album, “She Left For America” had just been completed, & we got a series of photographs taken during their time recording near Sea Tac Airport. As we talked through some of their inspiration for the music (not kidding, this is the most impressive, emotive album I have heard in this entire decade), I asked them one pivotal question: “What COLOR is this album, in your minds?” To us all, it was unanimously a shade of turquoise / sea blue. A few weeks go by, I happen to strike up a fascinating conversation with a perfect stranger called Adela, who was former stewardess from Pan American Airlines back in the 1980s. Very quickly into our charming little discussion, Adela opened a vault of 1960’s “PanAm nostalgia” she’d kept for years on her phone for me to look at (turns out, by sheer magical coincidence she is a bit of a historian on the subject), which helped immensely with some design inspiration. So, Bruno & I took the concepts of “Pan American 1960’s/70’s travel optimism” back to the band over a video call while I sat in a Rhode Island airport, talking through our ideas for the packaging of the album (which includes a “back of your airplane seat”-style, fold-out travel brochure”), & the band seemed smitten. This artwork was just so much fun, & we are floored at how good this album is. Don’t buy another jacket, unless it’s this LP jacket.
