Every year, when snowfall begins, we go up to this little alpine town called Trient Switzerland. It’s a cozy, idyllic little village, surrounded by nature; ideal for sledding. The track is unpredictable & swerves through the middle of conifer trees. As we glide down the slope, the snow that is kicked up in the air always manages to find that little gap between your forehead & snow helmet. The fun & laughter this builds up makes for a clever disguise, keeping you from realizing that a “brainfreeze” is imminent, having caught up to you before even finding time to think or react. August Burns Red “Presents (I would hereby like to make the case for pronouncing this as “Presents - IE “Gifts”) Sleddin’ Hill: A Holiday Album” record is very much like that… It comes along, disguised in the form of a “Holiday record”, with neatly-packaged, warm photos evoking your childhood, nostalgic texts, chiming bells to start it off… you might even think you’ve discovered a great follow-up to Elvis or Mariah Carey’s classic Holiday album, but by the time that “brain freeze” kicks in, there’s nothing you can do to stop it… head banging is the only logical course for the next 47 minutes. Whether you are using these vinyl discs in the warm, comfortable context of “spinning on your home stereo system next to a glowing fireplace”, or sliding on top of them, spinning like saucers down some far off European snow bank, keep your helmet on for this one… we don’t want any concussions for Christmas.
